Carrier is seeking a highly motivated Associate Director of Embedded Systems and Firmware to lead a global team of engineers responsible for developing embedded solutions that drive Carrier RLC - Americas thermostat and equipment controls. This leader will direct a team of engineers responsible for the development of products and solutions across the organization’s broad portfolio of brands.

The ideal candidate is excited by embedded development, new connected technologies, cloud & software technologies, and the limitless possibilities of the IoT domain, along with a strong understanding on product analytics. You will be an integral leader in developing and integrating our products into the Connected Home. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our equipment Platform Teams, Marketing organization, product management and Digital organization to define our future product and technology roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for multiple projects

  • Delegation of responsibilities to direct reports

  • Communication with Senior Business Leaders on project status

  • Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of embedded software product development

  • Works with limited guidance

  • Lead a team of 20-30 embedded software and systems engineers to develop IoT products and solutions, providing guidance, mentoring, and support to help them reach their full potential.

  • Build engagement and cohesion within the team – provide a sense of belonging.

  • Drive innovation in embedded systems design and architecture to stay ahead of industry trends and the competitive landscape.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

  • Partner and influence cross functional partners, to drive transformation in our existing processes to ensure we have high quality repeatable processes and systems.

  • Forecast and predict resources needed for new product development projects.

  • Lead the development of our electronic systems, ensuring that they meet customer needs and are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Promote platforming opportunities whenever possible

  • Identify product analytics opportunities to improve the value our products deliver to the customer.

  • Work closely with the product management and after market teams to increase traction on product analytics

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends and recommend new tools and methodologies to improve our development process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer/Electrical/Systems Engineering or Computer Science

  • 10+ years of firmware/IoT product development experience

  • 2+ years of demonstrated engineering team management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer/Electrical/Systems Engineering or Computer Science

  • Demonstrated communication, mediation, and persuasion skills – both verbal and presentational – to discuss project tradeoffs and issues with the appropriate detail and clarity required to build consensus and alignment between engineering, business, product, project, and senior level business stakeholders

  • Experience with various wired and wireless connectivity protocols (WiFi, Matter, Thread, Bluetooth, BLE, Z-Wave, Zigbee, LoRa, RS-485, UART, I2C, SPI, etc.)

  • Experience with IoT protocols such as MQTT, REST, Pub/Sub, TCP/IP, JSON, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in cyber security and key management Best Practices

  • Experience working or managing Agile software development
